Introduction:

 

The Limerick Community Education Network hosts a wide range of inclusive and engaging events that bring people together through learning, creativity, and community participation. From workshops and information sessions to cultural celebrations, networking opportunities, and learner-focused activities, these events provide welcoming spaces for individuals to connect, share experiences, and build new skills. The Network is committed to promoting lifelong learning, supporting local communities, and creating opportunities that are accessible, empowering, and responsive to the needs of learners across Limerick.

The Limerick Community Education Network (LCEN), in collaboration with the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB), delivers a range of wellbeing events designed to support and empower community learners. These events create positive and inclusive spaces where learners can connect, build confidence, and focus on their personal wellbeing through activities, workshops, and shared experiences. By working together, LCEN and LCETB are committed to promoting lifelong learning, social inclusion, and holistic wellbeing across communities in Limerick. This month, we are running an African Drumming Workshop. Based in Garryowen’s St John’s Bandspace, 29th of May 2026, 10 to 1pm.

Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival 2026As part of this year’s Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival, the Limerick Community Education Network (LCEN), in partnership with the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB), is delighted to host “Our Learning, Our Stories” — a special event celebrating the achievements, experiences, and journeys of community learners across Limerick city.The event will bring together community education centres and learner groups to share stories of learning from the past year in an informal and welcoming environment. Each participating centre will have the opportunity to speak briefly about their learning experiences, with the focus placed on personal stories, creativity, participation, and community connection.As part of the celebration, participating centres will be presented with a joint LCEN / LCETB certificate in recognition of their commitment to learning and community education. There will also be opportunities for centres to showcase crafts, exhibits, artwork, and examples of learner projects and achievements. “Our Learning, Our Stories” aims to highlight the power of lifelong learning in building confidence, creativity, wellbeing, and stronger communities throughout Limerick.

With the support of the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB) and LCEN Network members, the annual LCEN Winter Craft Fair takes place each December in the lead up to Christmas. The event is a wonderful opportunity for community learners from across Limerick city to come together and showcase the creativity, talent, and skills developed through community education classes throughout the year.The fair celebrates the achievements of learners across a wide variety of crafts and creative activities, while also providing a welcoming and festive space for communities to connect, share experiences, and support local learning initiatives. From handmade crafts and artwork to seasonal creations and class projects, the Winter Craft Fair highlights the important role community education plays in fostering confidence, creativity, and lifelong learning across the city.

30 Celebration Event

 

The Limerick Community Education Network (LCEN) proudly celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a special event held at the Castletroy Park Hotel, marking three decades of community education, collaboration, and lifelong learning across Limerick city. The celebration recognised the growth and achievements of the Network, which now includes 15 member organisations and continues to expand and strengthen community learning opportunities throughout the city.The event brought together learners, tutors, community groups, and supporters to reflect on the impact of community education and the importance of partnership and inclusion. Guests were welcomed with speeches from the Mayor and the LCEN Chairperson, highlighting the vital role the Network has played in supporting learners and communities over the past 30 years.The celebration was expertly MC’d by LCEN Development Worker Ellen Walsh Kerley, who guided the event through an afternoon of reflection, recognition, and celebration of the people and communities at the heart of LCEN’s work.
